Cultural Awareness
Cultural Awareness, one of our 6 Stepping Stones, empowers our girls to understand and appreciate other cultures. Understanding other ethnicities help individuals overcome and prevent racial and ethnic division, and dispel misconceptions about those ethnicities and other minorities. It is important to present our girls with an accurate view of our society and our communities.
Financial Literacy
Financial literacy, one of our 6 Stepping Stones, focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed money management decisions. Our organization incorporates financial education into our program to teach girls to understand the value of money so that they may become financially independent. We discuss goals, allowances, spending habits, employment, working hard, and the importance of saving money.
Community Service
Community Service, one of our 6 Stepping Stones, means giving back and helping others. Each year, we make Thanksgiving a little brighter for families in need by distributing turkeys, canned goods, vegetables, boxed goods, and more. We don’t forget that “giving” is in the name of the holiday.
Leadership
By assuming responsibility, our young Opals demonstrate a willingness to help others, to listen empathetically, and to make sound decisions. Helping our girls develop these character traits is why leadership is very important. Our organization addresses many topics including bullying, mental illness, social media, and more. We encourage our girls to participate in clubs, sports and other enjoyable activities to build strength and friendships. Our girls share their stories during “girl talk” and we discuss strategies to help them resolve their concerns and build confidence.
